Why Bother Learning History?

Welcome to Twentieth Century History! The Twentieth Century is a time of major change and upheaval in many parts of the world and the study of it lends itself to some really fascinating stories…

Key questions from today’s class are:

  • What is history?
  • When is history?
  • What types of history are there?
  • Who writes history?
  • Why is it important to learn about major historical events?
  • Which major historical events do you think are most important to learn more about? Why?
Here is the KeyNote presentation from class that prompted our discussion:

ACTIVITY: A Short History of Me

Using KeyNote or iMovie, create a 60 second snippet of your own personal history. You can’t fit everything that has happened to you in that timeframe so you are going to have to be selective. But, you have to present as balanced and complete snippet as you can. Make sure you include at least one other point of view. It is due by 2:30 on Friday the 6th, so we then have half an hour to watch them all.

Fill out this survey to get some prompts for the sort of information you can include:
